Found a box of old magazines and I began flipping through
Stopped to read an interesting article written in 1972
It was based on the findings of a study of the pollution rates
Of the three major rivers that run through the north-eastern States
And the startling conclusion, it just left me shaking my head
That every single life form in the whole North Atlantic would be dead
Within fifty years time

And if we can trust the numbers
And if the facts are verified
And if we still ignore the warnings
This is global genocide
As if we’re waiting for something or someone to make it all right
And just like magic these problems will all disappear overnight
As we explore new horizons this is the baggage we take
Into environments far less forgiving, no room for mistake
If we hope to survive
