About Us

LETC was established in 1972 when Hulme & Florence Pattinson and a partner bought a Hunter/Jumper barn from Frank Bristow.

At the time, all that existed on the 50-acre property was the riding arena, two barns, a hay shed and two paddocks.  Interestingly, when the arena was built in the 60s, the maximum width they could make it was determined by the roof trusses!  So while slightly smaller than today’s newer dressage arenas, it was still the largest in London when it was built and remained so for many years thereafter.

When the Pattinson’s assumed full control of the business in the early 80s, there were only three school horses, one stallion, and two boarders.  Two of their daughters, Shirley and Mary, and Mary’s husband Roul took over managing the barn and Shirley remains as LETC’s manager and primary instructor today.

Today we currently have over thirty horses onsite & more than seventy-five students in our Riding School.  As for the grounds, there are now eight paddocks, outdoor sand and stadium rings, and three levels of cross-country courses.   And we have plans for two new paddocks and more XC jumps!

In 1992 we hosted the Ontario Pre-Training Championships, an event which Shirley once won, and we look forward to an even more exciting future!
