LETC Short Course 2010

Date:  Sunday, June 27

A Short Course Event is a fun and exciting competition created to complement the sport of Horse Trials and expand on the Combined Training format.  In a Short Course entrants first ride a Dressage Test and then execute a Jumping Phase which consists of a combination of Stadium and Cross Country fences in a continuous run that starts and ends in the stadium ring.

This is a great opportunity for schooling, for Eventers who want to try a new level, as well as beginners and those with young green horses to try their hand at Eventing.

We are offering Short Course entries from Pre-Entry to Pre-Training, and Dressage Only from Walk-Trot to Training levels.  Cost is $75 per class for Short Course, and $35 per class for DO.

Horse Fitness

Here are some very good articles on horse fitness.  Strongly suggested reading for all those wanting to compete in 3DEs or ODEs next year.  LETC Event Training programs begin in February!

John Cooper on Fitness—John has been competing at One, Two and Three Day events for over ten years and was leading Event Rider in Australia in 1993 and 1994. John has competed on many different types of horse and during this three part series he discusses personal strategies, interval training and preparation for One Day and Three Day Events.

All About Interval Training—Interval training is designed to strengthen the horse's muscles and respiratory system by a gradual increase in 'stress' or exercise levels. In this way, over time, the horse reaches a level of fitness that will enable him to make the sustained effort required in competition.

Fit for EVENTING—an article on how to get your horse fit for the triathlon of horse sports by Dual Olympic Gold Medallist Jill Ralton.   Generalized program for how she gets her own horses fit to compete, including great information on heart rates.

Interval Training: Wendy L. Milner—a write-up of notes Wendy did after a talk on CT, specifically the endurance phase of 3-day.  Very good explanations of how to develop fitness with average timelines to get there.
