Spring Fling Clean-Up & BBQ Day:

We have lots of work to do to clean up and prepare the barns, outdoor rings, jumps and grounds for the coming season, so we appreciate as much help as you can give and as many friends and family as you can bring.  There will be lots of jobs to do that are suitable for all ages and states of health, so bring the whole family!!  Beverages will be available all day, and an afternoon BBQ will be provided for all who participate.

We will also happily accept all donations of shelving and storage equipment, i.e., sealable totes and boxes, shelf brackets, wood, etc., as well as pallets/skids and paint.

Date:  Sunday, May 2nd, 12-4pm (BBQ to follow)

                 Cost:  $0

Horse Farm Olympics:

This year we are staging the first ever Unhorsed Olympics.  Similar to a Gymkhana, this year our events will focus around barn- and horse-like activities, but entrants won’t be riding.  Samples of things we’ll be doing are the Rake Race (think mucking skills), a Cross-Country Relay (where humans will run the same course as their horses do), a Hay Pitching Contest and many more.  Our aim is to have a fun, safe afternoon full of laughter and to encourage everyone to play together and make new friends.

Note:  LETC has challenged all the local area barns to field their own teams to compete against LETC for a chance to win medals and prizes!   So while it’s a fun day, we still want to win!

The JJ Café Snack Bar will be open all day.

                 Date:  Date TBD

Cost:  $10 per rider (incl GST)

Quadrille:

"Quadrille," ("quad" meaning four), quite simply, is a team of four horses and riders who perform a series of synchronized movements. The history of Quadrille is quite rich, originating to the early royal courts of Europe where performances to music on festive occasions was part of the pageantry of the times.  The Spanish Riding School of Vienna is famous for its quadrilles as an integral part of its performances, and today beautiful rides are being performed by the Cadre Noire of Saumur, France, the RCMP here at home, and many others.

While in dressage competition the elegance and movement of the horse is prioritized, in the quadrille competition, the main criterion is the team's performance as a cohesive group.   Horses (and riders) must be compatible and learn to balance and pace themselves in an organized fashion through the various movements and figures.

In Southwest Ontario, our competitions are the crowd-pleasing Freestyle kind, so larger groups of 6 or 8 are popular and creative choreography, musical interpretation and the team’s artistic skill are added to the judged criteria.

We will be recruiting for the 2009 team this spring, so if you’re interested in trying out, please speak to Shirley.
